Just how much does design impact your workforce productivity? As design and data experts, that’s exactly the kind of information our Kolar team loves researching to help organizations of all industries and sizes understand the true effectiveness of a well-thought-out and executed workplace design. Your space has the power to inspire your employees and drive real results–it’s how you decide to use it that matters.

Office design goes beyond just the look and feel of a space. Despite having a beautiful environment for your team to work in, if your space isn’t functional, it will ultimately cause issues for your employees. According to a study published by Zenbooth, a shocking 97% of professionals said that their current workplace design drained their ability to focus to some extent, while 46% of them described the existing design as ‘impacting heavily’ on their productivity. Stress, low morale, and problems concentrating were all reported as outcomes of poor workspace design. This data clearly demonstrates how poor design negatively affects workers.

How does good design benefit employees? Work environments that deploy smart design strategies can enhance employee mood and overall wellness, in turn boosting productivity. The Fellowes Workplace Wellness Trend Report shares that employees want to work in a healthy environment. Findings stated that an, “overwhelming majority (87%) of workers would like their current employer to offer healthier workspace benefits, with options ranging from wellness rooms, company fitness benefits, sit-stands, healthy lunch options, and ergonomic seating. Interestingly, employees of younger companies are less likely (34%) to be turned down when asking for in-office benefits like sit-stand desks, than employees at established companies (42%). And, 93% of workers in the tech industry said they would stay longer at a company who would offer healthier workspace benefits.”

The modern employee seeks a workplace that they can connect with–one that understands the nature of their job and creates a space that brings harmony to their work. Knowing the needs of your team, from a design and wellness perspective, is important to build an environment that brings forth productive results.
